DESCRIPTION
A group of eleven 'Colophon' ephemera, in their original paper envelop 'Introducing a Book Collector's Quarterly The Colophon.' These include five prospectus for subscribers and other promotional leaflets, letters from editors, and subscription forms dated 1931 to 1937.
The Colophon was an American quarterly periodical for book lovers established in 1929 by Elmer Adler, whose idea was to group various printers from all around the world to contribute with articles using their own choice of paper, typography, and illustrations. The content was generally of historical issues related to printing, publishing or art, however it typically ranged in style, papers, and typography.
Notably, this collection includes the 1933 prospectus 'Three Years and This Year: A record of the Colophon adventure and an invitation to partake of its future,' a brochure dedicated to subscribers as a mark of appreciation, only printed in a limited series, unnumbered. It contains much information on the Colophon with illustrations; a prospectus presenting the 'New Series,' produced from 1935 to 1938; and 'Not by Bread Alone,' a prospectus of the Colophon Annual of Book-making and an Appendix describing the Colophon.
A very scarce collection.
