This 1744 2 reales is one of a series struck for Phillip V (1742-47). Milled bust coins
were minted at the Mexico City mint from 1772 until 1821, when Mexico won its
independence from Spain. Like the milled pillar dollar, reales circulated throughout
the new worlds, even serving as legal currency in the United States until 1857.
Nearly all colonial pillar coins were heavily used that most of them are in really low grades.
This coin shows near a poor condition grade. Nice example of the type!!
These colonial period coins circulated freely in the many New World colonies of Spain
and many were lost in shipwrecks. The issue for this year reales list as scarce.
Recorded mintage is unknown. Weight: 5.82 grams, Fineness: 0.917 Fine Silver.
