Royal Worcester, vintage "The Worcester Hop" design, 15cm Small Side Plate Fine Bone China Dinnerware. Green design with gold trim.
Plate approximately 15.0cm diameter at outer rim.
Condition Report: In excellent condition for age. This vintage item has been in my family for over 50 years and was only rarely used at Christmas and special family events. This service has never seen the inside of a dishwasher, being always carefully hand-washed and dried. Apparently purchased at Harrods in the late sixties (according to my late mother). I have carefully inspected each of the 14 items before listing and there are no marks, chips, cracks, crazing, staining or evident wear visible. The glaze around the decorated rim and on the back of the plate appears perfect. The glaze to the flat central section is near perfect but has a few light surface scratches (assuming from knife usage). The gold edging is also in a very good condition showing little or no wear.
"The Worcester Hop pattern features a variety of hops grown on the village of Mathon on the Worcester/Hereford border. The pattern was first used around 1795, during the Flight and Barr period. In 1955 the foreman painter Harry Davis set to work on the paintings and drawings. About ten years of work were necessary before the pattern suited and fitted the shapes perfectly and it was finally introduced in 1966. This item is fine bone china dinnerware which reproduced the Flight & Barr design, depicting clusters of hops and hop leaves intertwining the border and centre, in green shades, on ivory ground edged with gold" - Royal Worcester website.
