ANTIQUE COWLES HANDMADE CO CAST STEEL CARPET STRETCHER TOOL PATENT JUNE 13, 1870

This is a rare antique Carpet Stretcher primitive tool that has a patent date of 1870. This is a cast iron and cast steel tool with a wooden handle. The carpet stretcher blade is marked on the backside by the maker, the Cowles Handmade Company. It is also marked "Cast Steel". The cast iron handle is marked in embossed out lettering with a patent date of June 13, 1870. The other handle is made of wood with a brass ring around the top. Tool is in good condition overall for its age with just some natural wear present. Please see pictures for design and condition detail. Measures about 13.5" long when closed by 4 and 3/4" wide at blade portion.
