“Red Panda”
An Original Watercolour
Painting
by Wildlife Artist Paul Hopkinson.
The Red Panda’s Latin name - Ailurus fulgens dates back to 1825, when a French zoologist first discovered the animal. He named it Ailurus meaning cat, and fulgens meaning fire coloured. These days Red Panda numbers have significantly decreased, and in the wild they can only be found in the Eastern Himalayas and South-west China. A mainly nocturnal animal, they are most active at dawn and dusk, but keep your eyes to the sky, as they like to be high up in the trees.

I am a full time professional artist based in North Devon in the United Kingdom. I specialise in wildlife - animals, birds, insects, pets etc. I love to capture the life within my paintings and enjoy the process of working with the watercolour medium to create fine detail.
I teach my style online and enjoy seeing others fall in love with the wonderful medium of watercolour just as I have. Many of my paintings end up being tutorials in one way, shape or form - so you may even be able to see this painting being created.
