DESCRIPTION

The third edition of this work, published the year after the first and second editions.

With an engraved portrait of Medici as the frontispiece to volume I, headpieces to all chapters and vignettes to the title pages. An engraved tail piece to the end of both volumes. Collated, complete.

Lorenzo de' Medici was an Italian statesman and the de facto ruler of the Florentine Republic. He is regarded as one of the most powerful and influential patrons of the Renaissance movement within Italy. A member of the infamous Medici family, Lorenzo was known as Lorenzo the Magnificent. 

This is the work of William Roscoe. Roscoe was a historian, art collector, botanist, and MP. He pursued Italian studies, which resulted in this biography, which was well received among historians and was incredibly popular at the time.

CONDITION

In a quarter red calf binding with tree calf boards. Portion of calf missing to front board of volume II. Bumping to extremities and spine heads and tails. Portion of front pastedown removed to each volume, likely where a bookplate was once present. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
