DESCRIPTION

A very attractive second edition copy of John Morton's 'On the Nature and Property of Soils'.

John Morton was a Scottish agriculturist and writer known for his contributions to the Royal Agricultural Society and writings on agricultural science.

With a folding coloured map opposite page 248.

With a publisher's catalogue to the rear.

Bookplate of George Foljambe of the Foljambe family at Osberton Estate. Historically, the Foljambe family were Lords of the Manor of Tideswell and also held lands at Darley Dale.


CONDITION

Handsomely bound in half calf with marble covered boards and matching fore edges. Externally, a smart copy with minor rubbing and shelf wear, in particular a few chips to the spine. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, hinges are tender. Internally, firmly bound. Pages have some scattered spots, particularly to the first and last few pages, as well as pages 248 to 252 (the folding plate). Otherwise, pages bright and clean.
