this is an exceptional Nigerian Ekoi Ejagham ceremonial mask with rare NIGERIAN COINS on the face. it looks like it was repaired with the coins in 1973, which is what the coins on the face say. The Federal Republic of Nigeria, and dated 1973. there are several cracks in the face on the eyelids, and under the nose. the nose and eyebrows are brass. there are cowrie shells on strings on the ears and crown, front and sides. the raffia beard is dyed green, which is outstanding. the overall measurements are 12” wide by 46” long and 5” deep.

After doing a bunch of research I believe the coins are both 1/2 Kobe’s and 5 Kobos, which sell for about $5. Each.

This is one of many African masks in my African art collection.

I’ve never seen another one like it, so it’s a fabulous addition to any African art collection.
