DESCRIPTION

Missing volume one of the ten volume complete set.

A hugely important piece of literature on the subject of the New World's exploration, Hakluyt's Principal Navigations was instrumental in the promotion of settlement in North America during the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries.

With an additional two volumes concerning the voyages of other nations of the era, the works are embellished with plates and illustrations throughout, as well as maps to the front free endpapers and pastedowns.

A hugely important work of history and travel literature.


CONDITION

In decorative cloth binding with gilt detailing. Externally smart, there is some minor wear to the extremities only, as well as fading to the gilt detailing on the backstrips of volumes two to eight. Internally, the pages are firmly bound aside from two detached notes from the publishers found in volumes eight and nine, and are bright and clean throughout, aside from the odd spot and light foxing to the endpages.
