DESCRIPTION

Translated into French by Robert Arnauld d'Andilly (1589-1674), a Councillor of State and important writer and translator.

Flavius Josephus (37-c100) was a Romano-Jewish historian. He fought against the Romans during the First Jewish-Roman War as head of Jewish forces before surrendering and eventually fully defecting to the Romans. He is most noted for his important works of Jewish history, 'Antiquities of the Jews' and 'The Jewish War'. These writings are a primary source alongside the Bible for ancient Palestine, describing other important figures from the Bible such as Herod the Great, Pontius Pilate, and possibly Jesus of Nazareth himself.

Containing twenty books.

Illustrated throughout with beautiful engravings, as well as two folding maps.

A new edition.
