For your consideration is this antique Jewel with Dewdrop footed glass compote bowl circa 1870s which is in wonderful condition. This pattern was a part of the State Series and is the Kansas state pattern. This is the larger of the two compotes made in this pattern and is extremely rare. It measures 5 and 1/4 inches tall, 8 and 3/8 inches across the top, and the base measures 4.75" across. It has no chips at all; the top ruffled edge is completely intact. It is in lovely condition with only a few small straw marks in the glass typical of that era (see photos) and a couple teeny-tiny bubbles, and a perfectly pressed design in the glass which is just beautiful.  There is one hard-to-understand small hairline on the center inside of the bowl where the stem is, in the thick part of the glass, and I don't understand how something like this could have happened, it is in the thick part of the glass and is completely stable, does not threaten the stability of the glass in any way whatsoever (see last 2 photos). It's possible this happened during the manufacturing process, but there is no way of knowing for sure. This item is identified on page 56 of The Collector's Encyclopedia of Pattern Glass by Mollie Helen McCain.
