ITEM:
A beautiful mid century modern bronze sculpture by Pittsburgh artist William Wessel of an “Ostrich with egg”.
This is a similar design of the famous 20th century Swiss Sculptor Diego Giacometti’s bronze Ostrich with Egg sculpture that was created in the 1970s. Wessel’s recreation is actually larger piece at 29” tall though and it’s also it’s wider than Giacometti’s sculpture. In addition, as with Giacomettis sculptures this may have a real ostrich egg like his pieces.
Some background on Wessel, he went to Carnegie Mellon University and did a four year internship with noted sculptor Joseph Fitzpatrick. Williams extensive portfolio includes a wide range of subject matter and size, although most have been animal forms especially insects, birds and fish. Williams work has been featured in exhibitions throughout the country and his heroic sized pieces grace estates in Pennsylvania, New York and New England.
His more recent sculptures are priced from $500-5000 depending on the piece.
Please do your research on both sculptors.
