This thing is actually working! From the well/pump house, the water is piped to two cabins. The first cabin has a new water heater and, in the shower, we noticed almost immediately the water went from being very hard to soft. In the second cabin, the water heater is a few years old so it's taken awhile to notice the difference in the shower, but that water has gone from very hard to about average. Once the scale is fully cleaned out of that water heater, I suspect I'll have to adjust the descaler because the water will probably be too soft.

It is too soon to know if the descaler will keep the pipes clear. i use a glass coffee pot to boil water. It builds up quite a heavy white film that has to be scrubbed and treated with vinegar to remove the buildup. The water is not “soft” nor does it promote minimal use of soap. It is quite different than using a salt based water softener.

I was skeptical at first but I was able to purchase it on sale with special financing so how could I not try it and I am glad I did. Installed in less than 15 minutes without any need for tools.

I gave this product a 4-star rating only, because it is too soon to have a fair judgement of the effectiveness of the water treatment process. I have no complaints about the product, it is designed and built very well. It was easy to install, had a very good response from supplier to customer questions. Good data available on-line; the photo-micrograms of lime scale crystals prior to, and after water treatment treatment were major reasons for my choice of this product. An additional factor was that the product is of German design and manufacture, still one of the best engineering societies on the planet.

Have been using the product now for about 2 months. Haven't noticed any appreciable difference in scale build up on my faucets of shower heads. Will give it a little more time and maybe give it a follow up review. Installation and setup was very easy. Took all of about 20 minutes.

The Calmat water conditioner has exceeded our expectations! We have very hard water that was building up on everything it touched. We had just replaced a water heater because it was full of lime scale. Our water pressure was not good at all. Even one of our showers had stopped working because of buildup in the showerhead. We had our doubts when we read about this treatment system but we were desperate. We had used a water softener for several years and but it had helped very little. It was fast and easy to install. All it requires is to wrap the coils around the water pipe and plug it in. We couldn't be happier! Bathtub ring has practically disappeared, my dishes come sparkling from my dishwasher (without a rinse agent), our water pressure has increased, and even the spots on my stainless steel kitchen sink that I was constantly having to wipe, have all but been eliminated. We have had the conditioner for about a month.It has been great so far.We definitely recommend it.

I have not seen much improvement to the water, the power adapter went bad and I am having a difficult time finding a replacement. the jury is out if I would recommend this product

We have had this product in use for the last ninety days and we believe it has improved the quality of water by reducing the mineral deposits in our hot water line.

I bought this a month ago and i can see the difference it made in our sink and faucet. It reduced the scale build up significantly. Scales are now easily wipes off.

So far so good the instructions indicate it may take some time to be fully effective If it continues to improve I would probably change my rating to excellent.

I installed the Calmat system on our existing water supply line (loop intended for a water softener in our garage) a couple of years ago. Although I still get calcite on things (sink plunger, shower head, shower glass, toilet bowl rings) it takes longer to show up and is much less work to clean completely off. Also recently drained and deep flushed our water heater (which has not been drained/flushed in 5 years). We did not identify any sediment while draining/flushing the water out of the water heater. (I am located in Central Texas and supplied with city water that is pretty hard).

I don’t feel it has changed anything and it’s been working for a month. I was hoping for better results. May return back to store.

I had low expectations for Calmat, I did understand the logic behind the physics, but I was reserved on my hopes. The device was easy to install and it has worked better than other reviews had me to believe.

It is not reducing the water hardness. At this point it was a waste of my money!

For the 1st year and a half this worked. After that water seemed worse than the original condition. I test my water it initially reduced hardness of my water. After use (year and a half), hardness of water returned to almost same hardness as initially was without this device installed.

I purchased this Calmat water treatment system in June 2018 with some skepticism, but knew I could return it if it didn’t work. A salt system was not an option for me due to health concerns, so this has worked out great for me.

It was very easy to install, now the water has it’s taste back. Yes I would highly recommend it.

My water hardness is 20 and my water meets unit requirements. It works great and has solved any issues I had with hard water. Uses 4.3 watts and is easy to install. Great unit if your water meets requirements.

I bought this almost two years ago. It never worked very well and now the water is so bad I have to go back to a salt water softener. What a waste of money.

Recently purchased, live in the country, have a salt softer. Within 3 days of installing and without using the salt softer we noticed an immediate difference in the dishwasher cleaning, dishes were spot free and no white residue. The on-demand water heater is working a lot better. So far, very pleased.

This device has worked very well at reducing the scale and calcium buildup. It is especially noticeable on things like my coffee pot. The faucets and fixtures seem to stay more clean as well. I believe that this is helping reduce the buildup in my water heater and WaterFurnace and therefore extending their lives. After installing I slowly reduced the settings on our water softener every few weeks to see if we would notice any effect. When about 1/3 the former settings we started seeing rust and discoloration in the toilet bowls. So I bumped up the settings to about 40% of previous and we don't see any rust. My objective was to at least reduce the amount of salt that was being used each month. This device has done that. Now we use less than half what was used before. From 80-100 lbs a month to less than 40 lbs. We can't totally do without the softener though, I would have given a 5 rating for that. We live in NE Indiana. The water hardness is measured at 27.

Too soon to tell. I installed the water conditioner only last month with a hardness of about 15 GPG (grains per gallon). The system requires more time to remove the scale that was accumulated in the piping. I tested the water hardness at 30 days, and the hardness was down to about 10 GPG, so I can tell it is getting better, and I expect a satisfactory result in another month or two.

the product seems to work, but has restrictions not mentioned on Home Depot's website. We found on the manufacturer's website that our water had too much iron for the Calmat system to handle. in other words, we should have had our water tested first. This information should have been available on the Home Depot site, however they were very good about accepting my return and giving my money back.

Based on the overall ratings of others, I decided to give the Calmat Water Treatment System a try. I'm on well water in south Florida, and the water in my home is very hard, particularly with regard to the amount of rust in the water. You can see lots of rust scaling in the shower, toilet, dishwasher, etc. What is especially frustrating is having to wipe down my car after washing it in order to remove the hard water spots.

Bought this about a year ago. Wanted to give it every opportunity to work. It does not! Contacted Calmat and found out you must have less than 1 ppm of iron and 1ppm of manganese or it will not work. So basically if you have anything in your water, you are probably out of luck. We have 10 parts hardness in our city water consisting mainly of lime. Didn't help at all. For me it was an absolute waste of $350.00. I had contacted Calmat before buying and they told me it should work just fine with only 10 parts hardness. 100% disappointed. Can't return it, so I guess it goes in the dumpster.

I installed the Calmat due to calcium build up on fixtures. It was easy to install. Time will tell if it works as described however after 3 weeks calcium water spots on fixtures wipe away easily and the water seems to taste better.

This product really works. We tried a similar product under another brand we bought at Home Depot before and haven’t seen any changes, so we returned it. Then we read some good reviews about Calmat and decided to try it, Wow what a difference, we started to notice improvements right away. Now we’d been using the system for a while and are very happy. We wouldn’t use any other product. There is a reason for all those good review on this product.

This is an excellent product and does just what it says. After three weeks the water feels softer, calcium deposits are disappearing and I’m able to dispose of my giant salt based water softener.

At the three week mark, we are no difference in scale or water pressure.

I find that it works for me in removing scale and rust from the water.

The result is inconclusive. We have very hard water, even with water softener there are still hard warter build up. Since I Installed this 3 weeks ago, there appears to be less spots, but my wife does not think so. I'm waiting for the salt to completely drained out to see if she notices.

I didn't/don't know what to expect. This was my husband idea. I don't notice any difference, but it's only been installed a few days.

Ok, I've had this for nearly a year now. I do believe that it helps slightly, just not enough to justify the cost. I would still get bad hard water around my sinks that was not removable. The faucets seemed to clean up a little easier. I recently decided to add a water softener since the Calmat wasn't as good as the reviews have you believe. Since I already paid for the Calmat and can't return it I decided to install it on the main water line and use it in addition to the the water softener so it hits outdoor faucets that aren't softened.

I like Calmat so far. I bought it for replacing my broken Culligan water softener. I installed it by myself on Oct 6, 2017. I noticed that my water had a smoky smell and taste in a few hours after it was installed. The smoky smell and taste were gone after about four days. Water feels silkier now.

All indications are it performs as advertised- significantly reduces scale and water appears softer. Only issue is you cannot test to determine effectiveness as it changes water surface tension which prevents the minerals from scaling and water feels softer however the hardness tests are the same.

Greatly exceeded my expectations. We cleaned the scale and rust deposits off of our fixtures prior to installation and they haven't returned. They normally come back inside of a week. Also removed unpleasant odor from hot water. Thrilled with the results

Just installed 3 weeks ago, we can feel the softness of the water already. Once you located the piping it's easy to install.

I tried the Calmat for several months. Then I filled several bowls with: 1. water straight from my well (not going through the Calmat) 2. Water from my outside faucets (not through the Calmat) and 3. finally from my kitchen (through the Calmat.) After 3 days, I could see or feel no difference in the bowls. The Calmat was not working. All bowls had the same amount of scale forming. After writing the company, they said to change the setting to metal pipe, not plastic. (even though my pipe was plastic). After a week, I tried the bowl test again. There was a very clear improvement in the kitchen water bowl- much better. Scale was already forming in the non treated water, but the kitchen water bowl was still slick on the sides. I still see some scale forming on the toilet sides, but it is a marked improvement over untreated water.

I installed this product about 4 weeks ago exactly as per the instructions and don't see any difference. I read many positive reviews, installed the cable in opposite rotations as suggested, had my water tested twice for iron, hardness, etc. to make sure i'm right in the specified range and I see virtually no difference in the water. I still have the exact same about calcification on my shower doors, faucets, etc. - super disappointing thus far, but holding out for 89 days and will return if the product remains ineffective.

After reading numerous reviews and replacing our tankless water heater we decided to try this for help with the scale buildup in our pipes and faucets. Two months later and we could not be happier! Rated average cause Home Depot was harassing me for a review. Too early (only a couple of weeks) if it's working. Literature says up to six weeks or more to see results.

Installed mine about 6 months ago, I believe my installation to be according to the instructions, proper pipe size etc. but I noticed I'm still getting hard water rings around my toilet that require a pumice stone to remove, crazy thing is my hair is much softer than when I had a traditional softener.

This device is very easy to install, providing that you have some room between the pipe and the wall (as most pipe runs along the wall.) The price is just perfect. It has been several weeks since installation, so far, I do not see new scale but older scale seems to be slowly disappeared. It would take several months to see full result. I would recommend this product to everyone who has a bit of hard water in their pipe. It may not be a total solution to hard water as comparing to standard water softener using ton of salt each month. Normally it should be a problem unless one has issue with high blood pressure and on a very low salt diet.

I badly wanted this to work. I installed it correctly on the main 1" line just before it is converted to copper. I live in middle TN and we have what I call a medium to mild hard water condition. I've seen much worse. I wanted it to work so badly that I left it on a few months past the return policy time limit and i guess I'm screwed on returning it. I read a statement by one fellow on here stating that it will only work if the water that runs through it is used right then. Maybe that's the catch. Maybe all those times we use a small amount of water...lets say to wash hands or to rinse something...that were are not getting "conditioned" water because it's been sitting in the pipes too long. So using that logic, none of the hot water will be conditioned. Then this also means that you would literally need one of these right beside every faucet in your home in order to receive treated water...unless you run a huge amount of water at a time.Again, I wish this would work. I would gladly pay double if it really worked. But it doesn't. I still get the white calcium buildup on my granite and my fixtures. For $350 I feel like it was wasted money. I will have to invest in a salt based water softener in order to protect my new kitchen and bathroom.

Bought but not installed yet. The only place outside wall is where the pressure valve is. Do you think the is enough real estate to install before and after the 90 degree bend? See pics. Or do I need to cut into the drywall?

The Calmat Treatment system was easy to install. The hardest part was finding a good place to install it since my crawl space has no electric connection. I ended up installing it near the water heater and I've only been using it for one month, but so far it is working as advertised!

Our house is on Well water and I just installed this product yesterday. We have always hard an issue with hard water and had to use additives for the dishwasher and such. On the first run of the dishes without using the additive they came out crystal clear. Worked instantly.. Cleaning out the buildup in the pipes may take time but this product already has believing in it.

After 2 weeks I've noticed less spots on the glasses. I know it's working. I just don't know how well. It's far better than a water softener because I don't like over soft water and all the salt in the water since there is no way to get it back out at the treatment facility. So it's green too!

We have a serious iron issue which we did not expect this device to remedy. But we are pleased w/ the Water softener effect. So easy to install and such a savings over a new reg. water softener.

Our municipal water was so hard we had to remove our aerators and hand fixtures in the shower / sink every 3 months or so for a CLR bath to remove the excessive build up. We were debating an expensive and maintenance laden water softer to combat it.

It's too early to tell if the product will do what it claims to do, but given what others have said about this and similar products, I do not doubt that it will work. However, I can say categorically that this product is easy to install and set up, assuming you have easy access to the incoming water line and an AC power outlet. I didn't have a handy power outlet, so I had to call an electrician to install a plug. Everything else you need is included.

It is a little too early to tell what the results will be, but so far so good. It was easy to install.

Our water is not hard enough to necessitate a full water softener system, but it is hard enough to leave deposits on all the water fixtures in the house. In looking at an easy solution to this problem, I came across the Calmat device while researching another product. The Calmat had much better reviews so I figured I would give this a try first.

This is not, and is not advertised as a water softener. I felt the need to state that since I've read reviews on here from people disappointed that they didn't notice a change in their water. This item will not change the way your water feels or performs in any way. What this does accomplish is the elimination of 'hard water' deposits on anything and everything the water in your house touches. From the ends of the faucet on the sink to the sides of your coffee maker where a little water spills when you fill it up. Extremely easy to install. And it's made in Germany.

Fairly easy to install, I did it by myself in about 30 minutes. You need to make sure the coils are tight and no gaps. Love that it's maintenance free! We've owned this for about 2 months. A month after we installed it we cleaned off the hard water stains on our faucets & sinks and they have not returned so I assume it's working. Definitely way easier to clean our humidifiers now too. Took about a month to see a difference with the buildup in those. Seems like our water is softer and smells better.

I have had this product installed for a month now. I have noticed that the regular water spots are easier to clean off. The rings that are left in toilets and tubs are not there or as stated above are easier to remove. This does not change the hardness of your water ( we have very hard water ). It changes the way the water reacts in the pipes and what it does on surfaces. I have noticed that things are easier to clean up. We have stainless steel sink and it stays cleaner longer. This product was very very easy to install. It took under an hour. Most of your time is making sure your wire wraps are tight and in a straight line not on top of each one. After you plug it in it is a matter of scrolling through the pipe selections to have it working for your pipe type ( push the button stop on the type of pipe you have ).

The installation was very easy to perform. After a couple weeks water did feel a little softer. Toilet and shower glass is easier to clean. Soap and shampoo lathers up more. Only been installed for approximately one month and noticed satisfactory results. I would recommend this product to other.

Quality product. Easy to install. Works on the water all the time, even when the water is not flowing. Also, need to give it time to see the results. Make sure you wind the two coils opposite, for it to work.

It worked great for s year but now isn't working. Contacted the manufacturer for 5 year warranty. They are giving a huge run around. Told me to unplug for a few weeks.

I recently purchased a calmat a to s ale and rust system, I recently relocated to NH, and our well has a modest amount of iron and minerals. Installed three weeks ago several hours after installing there was a very noticeable change. Iron lost its bounding ability and toilet, dishwasher, sinks, washer very minimal cleaning. At this point in time my wife and I are very happy. We get to keep all those important minerals in our wTer!

What I expected

Installed it 2 years ago. This is not a water softener and the manufacturer makes no such claims. If you have hard water, you will still have hard water after you install the unit. It treats the water so the lime and calcium does not form deposits. We are on a well and have extremely hard water. Glass shower door was extremely difficult to keep clean. Shower heads would plug up and our kettle needed to be soaked with vinegar every 2 to 3 weeks to remove deposits. Since installing this unit shower door stays clean, shower heads have not required cleaning and we no longer get build up in our kettle. We still have hard water but this unit does what they say it will. Very easy to install, and way cheaper than a water softener with non of the downsides. Definitely recommend this product.

Had been toying with the idea of one of these devices for a while but was reluctant due to negative reviews, mostly on the other branded devices. Took the plunge on this one seeing the good reviews here on Home Depot and the fact it is German made (which is a frequently a good sign of good engineering). Installing in the basement was fiddly but easy and took around 15 minutes. Noticed after 3 days or so, the water seemed "softer". After a week, noticed that calcium / lime scale build up around the faucets was receding. Also receding was the calcium deposit staining on our shower glass doors. The final proof this was working was the, now non existent, calcium deposits coating the sides and bottom our kettle that we use daily to boil water. Usually we have to clean it out every 2 weeks or so. After 3 weeks, there is non at all. This device works ! Thoroughly recommended. And the good thing is we can take it with us when we move house !

First time to try this product. Very pleased so far with the softening of the water, and the amount of descaling, it has done on the dishwasher.. I would recommend this product considering the job it is doing and the money saved over a traditional water softening system..

It seems to be working great

Have had it about a month now. Saw very good results within 48 hours. Seems to be doing a great job, no water stains in shower, coffee pot is clean can feel a real difference in the water. I was a little reluctant to purchase the product but I cannot put in a water softener, so I thought t give it a try. Glad I did. Excellent purchase.

Device and packaging is very high quality and it's very easy to install. Real question is whether it actually works since there's no way to judge effectiveness short of cutting through a pipe "before and after" - as in the product literature. It's also expensive so clearly the decision to purchase this must be based more on faith than on data.

I just got this unit and it got here as promised And it was easy to install BUT it is WAY TOO SOON to tell if it works!

We have had this since spring 2016. So far it seems to work. We have much less iron staining from our hard water. The shower surround for the bath tube is staying cleaner. The toilet tank isn't getting a heavy iron stain coating. The orange color is now a light coating that just a scrubbing, no chemicals, removes. Same for the toilet bowel.As a couple of other reviews have noted - this is a water treatment system. It isn't using chemicals to bind to the hard particles. It is using a magnetic field to adjust the charge on the hard water ions. As a footnote, back in the early 1980's I used to work with film processing labs. They found that a magnet, magnetic water conditioning, reduced the algae growth in the warm wash water tanks. No scientific proof that this worked but the results were visible.

I was very skeptical that this would actually work. But in about 5 days I noticed a huge difference in white scale build-up, the way my water tastes, the way clothes feel out of the washer and no more "slimy" water feeling during showering. I still do get water spots but they easily wipe away now without using harsh chemical cleaners like "Zap" or "CLR".

I have hard water an was hoping this would be a green way to deal with it. Still debating whether to return it for a refund. You can see the rust in the water but it dosent stick as bad as before. My daughter says her bath water is rusty looking but no soap scum. She likes it but I'm still undecided. The toilets still get a build up, they are easier to clean so I'm still debating its merits. Extremely easy to hook up anyone could do it.

The Calmat anti-scale treatment device is truly amazing. I have already recommended it to my friends, family and neighbors. The hardest part of my installation was running power to the device, since power outlets are limited in my basement. The actual Calmat installation took 15 minutes. Within two weeks the hard scale buildup on faucets started to soften and fall off (or was easily brushed off). Water spots on sinks and fixtures are virtually gone. Shampoo use and laundry detergent use is down about 1/3. Water spots on vehicles (from washing) are gone!
