One packet of more than 100 seeds

For weeks in summer, these showy primulas produce tiers of flowers in rich shades of pink and red. They are easy to grow in light shade and moist organic soil. Try them in a woodland garden, beside a pond, or in a cool peat bed.

Seeds are collected from plants in the pictures, and others, grown in Edmonton, Canada: hardiness zone 3 (to -35C).

Seeds germinate readily following wet-cold stratification (conditions simulating autumn, winter, and spring). Sow seeds outdoors in autumn, or start seeds indoors in winter and early spring. Sow in a pot or seed tray over moist potting mix.
In spring, move seedlings outdoors and grow them on in a sheltered location (shaded from direct midday sun). Keep them well watered. Plant them into the garden in late summer. Expect flowers the following summer, and every summer from then on. More detailed instructions will accompany the seeds.
