ATLAS HO CODE 100 TRACK
ATLAS #850
LEFT REMOTE SNAP SWITCH (18" RADIUS TURNOUT CURVE)
Black ties, nickel silver rail.
This switch has a remote control switch machine attached so you can wire the switch to be "thrown" (changing the direction of the rail), from your control panel, rather than from the switch itself. Comes with a 1/3 18" radius section, making the curved leg equal to an 18" radius section. To add a passing track and siding, simply replace a 9" straight section. When replacing an 18' radius curved section with an Atlas Snap-Switch, add a 1 1/2" straight section to the opposite side.
One of the difference between this Atlas Snap Switch and the Atlas Custom Line Turnout, is that the snap switch has a plastic frog (cannot be powered) and when the switch is "thrown", for instance, to the curved section, the power to the straight section will go off. When switched back to the straight section, the power will be off on the curved section. With the Custom Line Turnouts, each track remains powered no matter which direction the turnout is thrown.
What's the difference between Atlas HO code 100 & HO code 83 Track? Literally, the code of a piece of track is the height of the rail in thousandths of an inch (meaning code 83 rail is .083" high; code 100 rail is .100" high). The significant difference lies in the physical appearance of the two types of track. Atlas Code 83 track has fine, brown ties and is more prototypical, whereas Code 100 has slightly thicker black ties and has been made for decades
