DESCRIPTION

Fridtjof Nansen was known for being many things during his life time, including an explorer, a diplomat, and a champion ice skater. Studying zoology at university in what is now Oslo, Nansen took his first sea voyage to the Arctic for five months. A few years later he went on another expedition to Greenland, and another to the North Pole, which inspired his book 'Farthest North', which was published in 1897.

With numerous plates, illustrations, and photographs throughout, including drawings by Nansen himself.
