William Robertson, was a Scottish historian. During his lifetime, Robertson became Royal Chaplain to George III , Principal of the University of Edinburgh, "The thirty years during which [he] presided over the University perhaps represent the highest point in its history." Robertson was also moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, and Royal Historiographer. His other works include The situation of the world at the time of Christ's appearance, An historical disquisition concerning the knowledge which the ancients had of India, and The history of Scotland.

CONDITION

In tree calf bindings with gilt designs to the spines. Externally, a trifle rubbed, with shelfwear to extremities and spines. Two front boards are detached, and with five boards held by the cords only. Internally, all volumes are generally firmly bound, with first few leaves to volume one detached. Bright throughout each volume, with only some instances of light spotting, and minor off-setting to the title pages. Ink stamp to the endpapers. Small tide mark to the frontispiece of volume one.
