Premium Silicon Carbide Polishing, Tumbling, and Lapidary Abrasive Media. Condition is New. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.
Silicon Carbide (SiC)is an extremely hard (9.5 on MOHS scale) abrasive with sharp edges. It is well suited for non-metallic materials such as concrete, stone, glass, Carbide, and other hard materials. SiC is the hardest blasting media available, allowing for shorter blasting times. It is very fast cutting and can be reused multiple times. Silicon carbide is used as additive in paint and epoxy, wire sawing, etching glass and for tumbling rocks, as well as for pressure blasting very hard materials. Rock tumbling with silicon carbide is typically done in steps, starting with a coarser grit like 60/90, followed by tumbling with120/220 grit, then pre-polish (400 to 600 grit silicon carbide or aluminum oxide), and final polish with micro-grit aluminum oxide 2 to 6 micron. Almost all of our aluminum oxide and silicon carbide loose abrasive grains are considered very environmentally friendly because they are made by recycling grinding wheels, otherwise destined for the landfill.
