Panorax Z-1 Panoramic 35mm Camera (1958/59), one of the rarest panoramic cameras, usually owned by Japanese museums, manufactured by the Panorax Optical Ind. Company of Tokyo (a division of Nippon Tokushu Koki Co. of Kawasaki?), this unique piece of equipment takes 45° to 360° images produced by wrapping 35mm film around a cylinder and exposing the film thru a rotating slit via internal and external front surface mirrors, with speed and slit size variations shutter speeds range from 1 second to 1/1000 second. It also features a focusable 40mm f3.5 Panoler lens, a diopter focusable six segment 360° handgrip/periscope viewfinder (with spirit level), an optical directional viewfinder (on the "Standard" mirror), additional "Upper" and "Lower" view taking mirrors (also front surface), a compartmentalized carrying case and three B&W filters (red, orange and yellow). The camera shows some signs of use, most notably some scuffing on the bottom plate and some paint chipping on the "Standard" view mirror housing. The rest of the body is 9.5ish cosmetic condition and the Upper view and Lower view mirrors are mint. The front surface mirrors are near perfect. The case has typical leather cracking and some missing stitching. This is a seldom offered opportunity to acquire a very rare piece of photographic history, bank payment preferred (but I will consider other options).
