Wounaan Embera Rainforest Panama Basket Fair Trade Small Fine Weave Bird & Trees with Leaves Design.

I think that this basket was made by the Wounaan and Embera Indians from the Darien province of Panama. The basket is woven using natural fiber found in the forest using a variety of plant extracts and earth supply methods for dying.  The original designs portray life in the village, local animals, insects or plant life.  This basket has geometric hook design on the sides. The weave is approx. 26- 28 stitches per inch. They say these are so tightly woven that they could hold water.

This is in very good condition. There are no loose threads or holes in the basket.  There are no markings as to the maker.

This is 3 1/2" tall x 3" across the opening on top .x 4 1/4" wide & the circumference is approx. 15" around.
