LETTER IS DATED "JANUARY 17, 1853" - WHILE EN ROUTE TO JAPAN ON THE FIRST EXPEDITION TO JAPAN WITH COMMODORE MATTHEW PERRY!!!!!!!!!

Letter addressed to a "John Henry" and in regards to a meeting the next day in which "oil vapors" need to be discussed!!!

The date of the letter puts the crew somewhere between St. Helena Island and Cape Town.  

A VERY RARE PIECE FROM THE FIRST AMERICAN EXPEDITION TO JAPAN!
