ANTIQUE EARLY 20TH CENTURY LEATHER GLADSTONE / DOCTOR'S BAG

A fantastic genuine vintage leather Gladstone-style doctor's or medical bag, dating to the early 20th century.

The bag has a wonderful aged appearance, with heavily patinated dark brown leather, original metal frame, brass-tone fittings, clasp and original handle. It has developed a beautiful natural distressed character through age and use. The original fabric-lined interior is still present and shows age-related staining and wear.

Condition:
Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description. The leather is heavily aged with extensive cracking, scuffing, dryness and areas of wear. There is a split/open area to one corner where the leather has deteriorated, as shown in the photographs. The handle also shows significant age and wear. The metal fittings have surface ageing/patina.

The clasp and frame are present and the bag opens and closes. Due to its age and condition, I would recommend it primarily for display, collecting, photography, props or decorative use rather than carrying heavy items.

No maker's mark or provenance has been identified.

A superb piece for collectors of antique leather goods, medical memorabilia, vintage luggage or period interiors.
