An unusual pair of carved and hand-painted wooden soldier figures, approximately 19 cm tall, each standing on its own wooden base.

Research found a closely matching carving in a historical collection. That example is described as German prisoner-of-war work depicting a British and a German soldier during the Second World War North African Campaign. The matching poses, uniforms and painted details make it a particularly interesting comparison for this pair.

These figures were acquired with other older pieces, but their own maker, date and history cannot be confirmed. They are therefore offered as carved wooden figures of the same design, without a claim that this pair was POW-made.

Both are in good condition, with some wear to the paint and finish consistent with age and handling. Sold together as a pair.
