Welcome to my auction .... Here I have up for sale/auction is an exceptionally rare opportunity to acquire a comprehensive, matching set of 10 vintage silver-plated dining placemats by the prestigious Royal Warrant holders, Mappin & Webb. Finding a complete matching set of 10 in their original presentation packaging is highly unusual, making this collection perfect for hosting formal dinner parties or expanding a fine antique tableware collection.
Design & Dimensions:
Each heavy-weight mat measures exactly 23.5 cm in diameter—the classic sizing to sit beneath standard formal dinner plates. The faces feature a beautifully crisp, chased foliate and scrollwork engraving that adds a timeless elegance to any tablescape. The undersides are lined with a high-quality protective green velvet baize backing designed to shield delicate wooden tables from hot plates and prevent shifting during service.
Silver Surface: The silver plating is in very good condition with no thinning to the base metal. As expected with genuine, pre-loved vintage tableware, the bright central mirror-finish areas show faint, light surface "hairline" scratches from handling and contact with ceramic plate bases. This honest patina is completely normal and does not detract from their stunning presentation when laid out under dining light.
Velvet Backings: The green velvet linings remain fully intact and clean.
Boxes: Includes all 5 original blue Mappin & Webb gold-crested presentation boxes. The boxes display minor storage wear consistent with age but are structurally sound and secure.
