Mid-Century Italian Master Platter
Up for sale is a stunning, vibrant majolica ceramic display platter originating from the iconic coastal town of Positano, Italy. This piece is completely hand-decorated and carries the highly sought-after, striking "Etna Fire" styling—featuring a rich, fiery red-orange backdrop accented with bright turquoise blue scrollwork and a centered target roundel. Proudly displays the hand-penciled factory mark "Sica" on the lower right front face, alongside "Positano Made in Italy" on the back. Seeing "Positano" hand-written on the back means this specific plate was commissioned by or created for a high-end tourist boutique or resort shop in the coastal town of Positano. Major Italian design houses often decorated specialized batches to sell directly to tourists visiting the Amalfi Coast. Features a slightly raised rim making it wonderful as a unique appetizer tray, center table centerpiece, or a high-end kitchen accent piece. The reverse side has been fitted with a secure metal wire wrap on the unglazed foot ring. This item is in excellent vintage condition. As with all authentic handmade Italian earthenware, minor factory glaze skips, pinholes, or faint crazing may be present, which only highlights its artisanal craftsmanship. No major cracks or distracting chips.
In excellent preowned vintage condition!
