Pair of Candlesticks


Silver Plate over Brass 

Made in Poland

Up for auction is a pair of antique silver plate over brass, Jewish Sabbath candlestick holders.   These ornate petticoat style candlesticks are decorated throughout with a floral and rose design.  Each one stands approximately 12 inches in height, and their base measures approximately 4.75 by 4.75 inches.  Stamped into a  corner of the base of each candlestick is the Norblin mark, with "NORBLIN & Co.", "GALW." and "WARSZAWA" all inside of an oval.  It is also stamped with the Russian Coat of Arms (above the Norblin mark) as well as "1139 A" (at another corner).  The candlesticks were made by Norblin & Co., of Warsaw, Poland, in the mid to late 19th Century.  

The Candlestick Holders are in great vintage condition, with no dents, dings, scratches, repairs, nor any other damage to the metal that I can detect.  However, there is some slight waviness along the bottom edge of the base of one side of one of the candlesticks.  In addition, there is wear to the silver plate, allowing some of the brass to show through along some of the edges and raised areas, and especially along one of the bulbous sections of one candle socket.
