1911 BOSTON GLOBE Christmas GOLD DUST TWINS Black Americana Advertising Magazine

Fascinating original 115-year-old Boston Sunday Globe illustrated magazine supplement, published on Christmas Eve 1911.

The colorful front cover, signed Albert Hencke, depicts an exhausted Father Time handing the infant New Year 1912 to a woman, with the caption “I've Had a Corking Time.”

Of particular interest is the striking full-page N. K. Fairbank Company advertising back cover, promoting Gold Dust, Fairy Soap and Sunny Monday Laundry Soap.

The advertisement prominently features the famous Gold Dust Twins trademark and the slogan “Let the Gold Dust Twins do your work.”

The Gold Dust Twins were one of America's best-known early advertising trademarks and are today also studied and collected as an example of the racial stereotypes and caricatures used in American advertising during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Original Gold Dust advertising material is represented in the Smithsonian National Museum of American History's collections.

A particularly appealing example because the advertisement remains part of the original, dated December 24, 1911 Boston Globe supplement, rather than being an undated advertising piece removed from its original publication.

CONDITION: Very attractive overall appearance for a newspaper supplement dating from 1911. Expected age toning with scattered spotting/soiling, edge and corner wear and handling wear. Both the illustrated Christmas/New Year front cover and Gold Dust advertising back cover retain strong visual appeal.
