Oppenheimer Repro 2.25" Cosplay Button

A 2.25" pinback button with a white background and the bold letters K-6. People working on the Manhattan Project during World War II had to wear buttons to indicate their security status – this is a replica of a cinematic representation of this sort of button.

When on base in Los Alamos, the New Mexico town selected for the Manhattan Project, personnel wore round badges with combinations of letters and numbers. These refer to the identification numbers they were assigned upon arriving at Los Alamos.

In actual ID photos taken for security purposes, you can see their number on the image. Robert Oppenheimer’s number was K-6.

He was, in fact, Number Six, in a (nuclear) village.
