A striking and highly unusual vintage aviation desk display featuring a Tupolev TU-134A in INTERFLUG livery, mounted on a sculptural base together with a tall futuristic metal tower.
The aircraft itself appears to be made of cast aluminum or another lightweight cast metal, then painted in the classic white, silver and red INTERFLUG color scheme. This gives the model a much more substantial and authentic presentation-piece character than a standard plastic aircraft model.
The fuselage is marked:
INTERFLUG
TU-134A
1986
Additional markings are present on the wings and tail.
INTERFLUG was the national airline of the former German Democratic Republic, and the Tu-134 was one of the Soviet-built jetliners associated with East German civil aviation.
The aircraft is mounted in a dynamic flying position on a metal support with spring-like decorative detailing. Beside it stands a tall polished metal tower with a telescopic, futuristic form, giving the entire composition a strong Space Age / retro-futurist / Cold War-era design aesthetic.
The heavy rectangular base has a textured stone or stone-effect finish with a decorative scalloped front edge.
This is a very impressive display piece and would work beautifully in a collection of:
DDR aviation memorabilia, INTERFLUG collectibles, Tupolev aircraft, Cold War design, vintage airline objects, Mid-Century Modern interiors, Space Age decor or industrial design.
