Valentine Fletcher's monograph explores the history of domestic chimney pots from craftsmen's hand-made pots until the advent of modern heating systems and also the transition to mass-produced examples. Includes nearly 500 thumb-nail drawings of chimney pots permutations and 25 pages of black and white photos of a wide range of chimney pots including rare and unusual designs. This is the paperback edition of the original hardback published 1968. Includes appendix on the manufacture of medieval pots. The author bought his first chimney pot in France in 1978. His collection, which he initially kept on the lawn in his front garden in the village of Tollard Royal, on the Wiltshire-Dorset border, at its peak topped 200 and are now part of the Park Farm Museum, Dorset.
