History of the Donner Party, McGlashan, C.F., Crowley & McGlashan, Truckee, Ca, 1922
In the history of the United States perhaps no other event has ever captured the imagination of so many. A tale of poor planning, bad luck, an opportunistic emigration entrepreneur and the hardships endured by the 87 members of the Donner Party. This tale involves a late start, additional obstacles faced during the travel because of a false shortcut touted by Hastings, an early snowfall in the Sierra mountains, starvation, murder and eventually cannibalism (n.b. Wiki). The author was a contemporary of the children of the ill fated party and had direct correspondence with many, he also had access to the Breen diary. This first edition contains information which was redacted from later printings at the request of some of the children.
