ETRON Model BTV-808-C transparent 5.5” black-and-white CRT television with built-in AM/FM radio. This unusual compact television features a clear housing that exposes the internal CRT, circuit boards, wiring, speaker and mechanical controls.

Transparent electronics of this type are commonly associated with correctional/inmate use, where clear housings allowed the interior of electronics to remain visible. This particular unit’s actual institutional or inmate history is unknown, so no specific prison provenance is being claimed.

The television includes composite VIDEO IN and AUDIO IN RCA connections, making it particularly interesting for retro gaming and other analog video sources.

Condition

Pre-owned and tested. The television powers on and is working. The clear plastic housing shows normal age-related cosmetic wear including scratches, scuffs and marks. Please examine the photos closely for the exact cosmetic condition.

AM/FM radio and television controls are incorporated into the unit. Telescoping antenna is present the radio works but is terrible at picking up channels.

IMPORTANT ANALOG TV NOTICE

This television contains an older NTSC analog television tuner and does not contain a modern ATSC digital tuner. It should not be expected to receive today’s standard digital over-the-air television broadcasts directly through its built-in tuner/antenna. An appropriate digital-to-analog converter and related equipment would be required for modern over-the-air digital television reception.

The television can still be used with compatible analog video equipment through its VIDEO IN/AUDIO IN connections. The FCC confirms that analog-only televisions require conversion equipment for modern full-power digital over-the-air broadcasts, while devices such as game consoles and other external sources can continue to be used.
