This remarkable early 1960s Barbie, Ken and Midge collection is a genuine childhood time capsule, preserved together just as the last child left it more than sixty years ago. The dolls, two original Mattel cases, clothing, shoes and tiny accessories have remained together through the decades rather than being assembled later from unrelated pieces. Opening these cases is much like opening a child’s Barbie wardrobe from the early 1960s, with the dolls, fashions and little play accessories still together as they were stored after their last days of play.

The collection includes three vintage dolls, two vintage Mattel carrying cases and a substantial assortment of period clothing, shoes, hangers and miniature accessories. The way everything has remained together gives this collection a special character that is difficult to recreate with separately acquired pieces.

The dolls include a vintage Painted Molded Hair Ken from approximately 1962/1963 featuring hard molded brown hair with excellent paint coverage and original blue painted eyes. Ken is dressed in the #786 “Saturday Date” gray tweed suit jacket, matching trousers and white shirt.

Also included are two vintage female dolls, one a striking titian/red-haired Barbie and the other a brunette Midge. Both are dressed in vintage period clothing that remained with the collection.

The first case is an early black Barbie case featuring classic ponytail-era fashion graphics and the familiar Barbie script logo. The second is a larger black Mattel wardrobe-style case with interior storage areas for dolls, clothing and accessories. Both cases retain the distinctive period graphics and storage design associated with early Barbie collecting.

A large selection of vintage Ken clothing remains with the collection, including the black #787 Tuxedo with satin-style lapels, the red-and-white striped #785 “In Training” zippered jacket with coordinating red trunks, striped pajama pieces, trousers, jackets and additional separates.

The Barbie wardrobe includes an assortment of vintage dresses, lace pieces, skirts, tops, formal clothing and additional separates. Among the pieces are a metallic brocade-style jacket, a white lace formal dress and other period fashions that remained stored with the dolls.

The collection also includes an assortment of small accessories that survived with it, including vintage shoes and sandals, socks, sunglasses, plastic hangers and additional miniature play accessories. Some shoes still have their matching mate, while others are single shoes without a match, exactly as they were found in the cases.

This collection is being offered in as-found vintage condition and has not been reorganized into a newly assembled set. The dolls, clothing, accessories and two cases remain together as a wonderfully preserved snapshot of one child’s Barbie and Ken collection from the early 1960s.

The cases show wear consistent with their age and childhood use, including scuffs and wear to some edges and interior components. The colorful exterior graphics remain attractive. Ken’s molded hair retains very nice brown paint coverage. The dolls, clothing and accessories show varying signs of vintage use consistent with a collection that was genuinely played with and then carefully stored away for decades.

Everything shown is being offered together as one collection, preserving the charm, history and authenticity of this early Barbie-era childhood time capsule.
