Vintage Chinese bird-and-flower painting,
hand-painted in watercolor and gouache on silk.
The horizontal composition features a brightly colored yellow songbird, probably representing a golden oriole, perched on a flowering branch. Large pink hibiscus or cotton-rose blossoms occupy the center, accompanied by clusters of delicate white flowers, buds, foliage, and finely rendered branches.
The vertical inscription may be translated approximately as:
“A hundred flowers bloom like brocade; beautiful birds sing their songs.”
Signed Yuru, followed by wording meaning “painted from life,” and accompanied by a red artist’s seal.
