Cortébert was a respected Swiss watch manufacturer with roots going back to 1790. By the mid-20th century, the company was producing its own movements and was regarded as a quality Swiss manufacturer. This watch is fitted with Cortébert's Calibre 697, an in-house hand-wound movement introduced around 1955. The 11½-ligne movement runs at 18,000 A/h and has a power reserve of approximately 44 hours. It is a nice example of the understated but technically interesting Swiss watchmaking of the period.
