Victorian Solid Silver Combination Baby Rattle Whistle Hilliard & Thomason 1852
Item Details
A Victorian sterling silver combination baby rattle and whistle by Hilliard & Thomason, assayed in Birmingham in 1852. This traditional mid-19th century nursery accessory combines a whistle terminal with decorative rattle elements and would originally have been presented as a christening or nursery gift. The body is decorated with chased and applied ornament typical of Victorian silver babyware, while a suspension ring is fitted to one end. Hallmarks are present, although worn through use, with the Birmingham assay mark and date letter remaining identifiable. It remains in very good overall condition with light surface marks and handling wear consistent with age. The handle appears to have been replaced at some point, as examples of this type were commonly fitted with coral handles. Please study the photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
Returns are handled in line with eBay policy and the returns setting on this listing.
