A fine Victorian sterling silver pot pourri box by Edward Edwards II, assayed in London in 1839. Rectangular in form with clean, straight sides, the box is fitted with a removable lid incorporating a finely pierced panel designed to allow the fragrance of dried flowers, herbs or scented botanicals to escape. A small central ring handle provides a practical and decorative finishing touch. The interior is plain and unlined, consistent with pot pourri boxes of the period, while the underside and interior retain clear, well-struck hallmarks confirming the maker and date. The restrained design and quality workmanship reflect the elegant simplicity favoured in early Victorian silver. It remains in very good antique condition with light surface wear and minor marks consistent with age and careful use.
