Nice vintage black glass
vase with hand enameled and gold highlighted Neoclassical figurines
around the top. The bottom of the vase is painted in red. Marked on the
bottom OOF Czechoslovakia. One site says the mark was used by the
Friedlander Buying Service between 1931 and the 1940s; however, the use
of the letters OOF does not make sure as a later mark for this company
and the style does not fit the period. Another source suggests this mark
is that of Oscar O. Friedlander and that the later version of the mark with the initials FBS is actually Friedlander,
Belmuth & Stiegler who were the successors to Oscar O. Friedlander.
Friedlander, Belmuth & Stiegler are mentioned in a 1927 trade
catalog as using the initials FBS. This style of class is referred to as "Basalt glass." Possibly produced by Harrach. There are similar examples that were produced by Harrach, but I have not found this exact shape or pattern.
Good condition.
Measures approximately 6 inches wide x 6 1/2 inches tall.
