A very attractive antique Albert chain / watch chain, formed from bold decorative links with engraved barrel-shaped sections and fitted with two different clasps, including a large circular spring-ring style fitting.
The chain was originally gold plated, although much of the original finish has now worn away, leaving a warm aged metal tone throughout. The remaining traces of gilding and the engraved detailing give the piece plenty of antique character.
At approximately 10 inches long, it could be worn traditionally as a pocket-watch chain, incorporated into a fob arrangement, or repurposed as a substantial antique bracelet.
The link design is particularly appealing, with each shaped connector carrying small engraved starburst and geometric decoration.
Presented in well-used antique condition and sold as seen.
The principal condition issue is extensive wear to the original gold plating, with most of the plated finish now rubbed away and the underlying metal visible throughout.
There is also general tarnishing, rubbing, surface marking and age-related wear to the links and fittings.
The chain remains an attractive and substantial piece and would look particularly good if professionally re-plated or restored, although it also has plenty of character in its current aged state.
The clasps and fittings are present, but as with all antique jewellery they should be checked before regular wear.
No polishing, replating or restoration has been attempted.
