A striking large Victorian goldstone / aventurine glass brooch, set with a substantial square-cut glittering brown glass panel in a silver-tone metal mount.
The centre is a fabulous warm copper-brown goldstone glass, densely filled with metallic sparkle that catches the light beautifully. Its large size gives the piece real presence, measuring approximately 5 cm across, and it would have made a bold decorative statement when worn.
The stone is held within a simple antique metal frame with small retaining points around the edge, allowing the glittering glass to remain the main focus of the design.
Goldstone is a man-made aventurine glass containing countless tiny metallic inclusions, producing its characteristic shimmering appearance. It was particularly popular in Victorian jewellery and decorative objects.
Presented in good antique condition overall with expected age-related wear.
The front of the goldstone has some visible scratches and surface marks when inspected closely, together with lighter rubbing and general handling wear. These are much less noticeable when the brooch is viewed normally or worn, and the stone still has a very attractive overall appearance.
The silver-tone mount shows tarnishing, rubbing, small scratches and general age-related patination. There may be minor wear or distortion to some of the small retaining points around the edge.
No restoration or polishing has been attempted.
