Sven Haugaard: In 1962, Hjørdis and Sven Haugaard established a workshop together in Kolding. Hjørdis Haugaard (1931-2010) was a trained Silversmith at Frantz Hingelberg in Aarhus, where she was taught by Svend Weihrauch. After that she was worked with Cohr in Fredericia for a few years. Sven Haugaard (born 1933) was a trained Goldsmith with Viggo Wolny in Copenhagen, and was then employed by Anni and Bent Knudsen in Kolding. Hjørdis and Sven met each other at Guldsmedehøjskolen and saw an opportunity to unite the Goldsmith's and Silversmith's work in a community. The result was a small workshop in the hobby room in a newly built house in Kolding. But after a few years, first with one apprentice and soon after with another apprentice, the workshop became too small, and the couple established a larger workshop at Haderslevvej 105, where they continued to live. A total of a dozen apprentices passed through Hjørdis and Sven Haugaard's workshop. Initially, producing jewellery that was sold far beyond the country's borders. Initially,there were no customers for silverware work, but when Simon Peter's church was built in the northern city, Hjørdis Haugaard won the competition for the new church's altar silver. It became something of a turning point for Hjørdis, who has went on the be commissioned for other church designs.
