Post-Medieval 16th century iron key
Tudor period
Sub oval kidney bow with internal projections
Three ward flag
Solid shaft
A scarce complete example in wonderful condition
Similar example keys can be found on PAS (Portable Antiquities Scheme) and are dated to the 16th century
(Close examples being LON-8EEC54 & PUBLIC-AC8C64)
Approximately (+/- 0.3mm):
73.8mm (2⅞") in length
4.4mm shaft diameter at the tip, increasing to 6mm at the collar
12mm flag width
22.5mm combined height of borh shaft and flag
28.1g in weight
General age wear, knocks, dings and marks
Cleaned using electrolysis
Clean - no rust or grime
