Our client's Satsuma charger by Takichi Hotoda of Yokohama, Japan, measures 13 inches across and 2 3/8 inches tall and is in good condition.  Signed 保土田造 (Hotoda zo or Hododa zo) which translates to Made by Hotoda.

For a similar charger by Hotoda, lot 394 of Bonham's sale in London on May 10, 2022, offered with an estimate of 3,500-4,500 GBP ($4,375-5,625). Born in 1868, Takichi Hotoda became a central figure in the production and global distribution of the finest gilded earthenware starting in the early 1890s. By He opened his first shop, Hododa Shoten, in 1893 and by the late 1890s was a leading retailer and exporter of Satsuma ware.
