Vintage Chinese painting on silk depicting a traditional physician or healer offering medicine to a respectfully bowing patient.

The doctor wears flowing red, green and cream robes and raises one hand in a measured gesture. The second figure leans forward while holding a small round pill or medicinal object between his hands.

The inscription at the upper left reads:

一丸濟世 — Yī Wán Jì Shì

This may be translated approximately as:

“One Pill Brings Relief to the World”
or
“Healing the World with a Single Pill.”

The phrase praises the extraordinary effectiveness of medicine and, by extension, the skill and benevolence of a gifted physician.
