A nice condition Protecto case from the pre-Hoppe's era. Green molded ABS plastic with the correct ridged foam. The latches are Excelsior Hardware, not the later ATCO type. The handles are made by Bruce Company and marked "Bruce." The hinged side pieces are by Prestolock.
The case measures 51-3/4" inside. The earlier tan Protecto-Kaddy cases that were shipped with the M40 were shorter, barely longer than the rifle. When the Marine Corps began using the M40A1 they reportedly used these longer Protecto cases and later more durable cases such as the Pelican 1750.
The exterior is very clean. It has a few minor rub marks. The latches are very good, with some minor oxidation. Unfortunately the key is not here. Though the Excelsior #42 key is readily obtained.
The foam is in very good condition. There's some oil stains on the bottom piece. You can usually clean most of this with soap without too much effort. There's minor impressions to both pieces but nothing large and no tears. The foam is above average for these cases.
