An exceptional complete piece of British fashion history. This exquisite gown was designed by the elite mid-century label Emenson exclusively for the premier department store Bourne & Hollingsworth Ltd on Oxford Street, London.  While manufactured in late 1955, the gown was custom-tailored into a breathtaking, conservative 1940s transitional silhouette perfect for a winter wedding:
The Fabric: Superb, heavy-weight ivory floral satin jacquard (damask brocade) with a deeply reflective botanical vine pattern that holds its own structural body.
The Bodice: Elegant ruched crossover faux-sweetheart bustline leading into an empire panel waist.
The Sleeves: Long, tapered sleeves terminating in gorgeous pointed "Calla" wrists with factory-original metal dome snap closures.
The Closure & Train: A continuous, factory-original nickel-plated Aero metal center-back zipper fully integrated into the pristine machine bias-taped seams. The skirt flares into a spectacular, sweeping chapel-length train.
This gown includes its original cardboard presentation box featuring the official handwritten delivery address to the original bride. The box is heavily stamped with pristine post office markings:
Front: Canceled Queen Elizabeth II "Wilding" definitive postage stamps dated 28 AP 55 (April 28, 1955).
Back: Official Royal Mail ledger code "3472" and a secondary 28 NOV 55 (November 28, 1955) Western Parcel Office ink stamp, locking the wedding to a late 1955 winter ceremony.
Condition of gown:

Exterior: Pristine. No shattering, pulls, or thread fraying to the delicate jacquard weave.

Interior: Flawless. Clean pinked interior seam edges and original satin hanger loop ribbons are fully intact. Completely free of underarm yellowing, sweat stains, or storage odors.

Hardware: The Aero zipper and wrist snaps operate smoothly and are completely rust-free.

Box: Fabulous condition.  Some minor age wear but still holds dress beautifully.

Postage only. No pick ups.  Jewellery not included.

Measurements when lying flat:

Under armpit to armpit is 47cm.
The smallest part of the waist is 34cm (There is some room on the inside seam each side to allow it to be taken out a little if needed)

  • TAGGING / RETURNS - Unfortunately, due to previous experiences with my vintage garments being worn and returned, all my vintage dresses are now fitted with a security ID tag prior to dispatch. It is a soft paper tag that does not impact or fault the garment at all.  This tag must remain attached if a return is requested. Once the tag is removed, the item is considered worn and becomes non-returnable. The tag is designed to be easily cut with scissors once you’ve decide to keep the dress.  I am happy to offer returns if item does not fit but all postage costs are the responsibility of customer.  All sizes for dresses are supplied in description. Please try the dress on carefully with the tag intact. If the tag is removed, no return or refund will be accepted.


    VINTAGE - Please note most of my items are vintage and will never be new. There WILL be signs of age or wear. I will always try best to describe wear as best to my ability but please always look closely at pics at these form part of the description.  Zoom in and out for best viewing.
