The Kiss (painted between 1907 and 1908) is the absolute high point of Klimt's famous "Golden Phase." Inspired by Byzantine mosaics he saw during a trip to Ravenna, Italy, Klimt used actual gold leaf, silver, and platinum in the original painting to create a shimmering, ethereal text
