This is a very fine Civil War U.S. Oval Belt Buckle that is in excellent non excavated condition. It has a beautiful face and is with full lead on the reverse. The belt hooks are the ‘Puppy Paw’ type, and the catch is heavy, wide, and pointed. The round studs are positioned behind the letter ‘S’. The brass face is with a pleasing age toned patina and unblemished. The ‘US’ lettering on this buckle is the short, squat and fat type like that of the W.H. Smith manufactured buckles and plates although this buckle is not marked. It remains a very fine example in excellent, undamaged condition.
