Admiral Sir Sydney Robert Fremantle

Fremantle was highly decorated, receiving the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath (GCB) and the Member of the Royal Victorian Order (MVO). He published his memoirs, "My Naval Career: 1880–1928," in 1949. He died in London on 29 April 1958 at the age of 90 and was buried at sea. 

Cyril Henry Frederick Barnes-Lawrence (1888-1975) was the son-in-law of Admiral Sir

Sydney Robert Fremantle (1867-1958).

The connection was formed through Cyril's marriage to Sylvia Fremantle, one of the Admiral's daughters. This marriage linked two prominent naval families:

• Family Alliance: By marrying Sylvia, Cyril became part of the famous Fremantle naval dynasty, which has a long history of high-ranking officers in the Royal Navy.
• Naval Careers: Both men were distinguished officers. While Sydney Fremantle was an Admiral who commanded the 1st Battle Squadron at the end of WWl, Cyril Barnes-Lawrence reached the rank of Captain and later served as the Master of the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth.
• Social & Professional Circles: Their families moved in the same elite naval and clerical social circles of the early 20th century. Cyril's father, Arthur, was a respected Canon, while the Fremantles were established military aristocracy. •
