1967 KING COMICS SEALED POLYBAG 3 PACK Flash Gordon, Mandrake The Magician, The Phantom KING PAK
King Comics, a short-lived comic book imprint of King Features Syndicate, was an attempt by King Features to publish comics of its own characters, rather than through other publishers. The line ran for approximately a year and a half, with its series cover dated from August 1966 to December 1967. The series had distribution problems throughout its run. Several distributors refused to take the King Comics because their first issues lacked a Comics Code Authority seal. King Features tried to overcome the distribution problem by selling its titles in special sealed poly-bag "King Paks" of three (a comparable 36¢ value for just 29¢) to variety stores and supermarkets. This tactic failed to gain more readers so the King Comics line was discontinued.
I listed two different King Paks. This one contains the following comics:
Flash Gordon #5 featuring Al Williamson cover and interior artwork
Mandrake The Magician #5 featuring a flying saucer cover / story
The Phantom #22
The 2021 Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide values these three comics at $180.00 in near mint- condition.
These comic books are sealed in a polybag but appear to be all in very fine / near mint- condition.
The polybag has minor surface wear and a small piece missing were someone took a price sticker off in the upper right conner and tore the plastic in the process.
